How do we make the ends of a spring flat? We grind the ends with high-speed precision, mechanical grinders like the one shown here grinding .375” 17-7 stainless steel wire. Compression springs, especially larger wire compression springs, are ground flat on the ends so that the spring is seated flush when it’s installed. These compression springs are loaded by the machine operator into machined holes that are drilled into the spinning plate. The precision holes prevent the spring from moving while being ground. Most mechanical spring grinders can grind each end of the spring at the same time. Katy Spring can grind a full range of wire sizes from .012” - .625”. Call us today at 281-391-1888
