A garter spring is essentially an extension spring whose ends are connected by hooks or an internal connector. Garter springs are continuously-wound springs and can be manufactured with spacing between the coils or solid wound with no spacing between the coils. Garter Springs can exert a force from its internal diameter and are commonly used in seal products. The garter spring shown here is made from .012 inch 300 series stainless and requires SPC charting to continuously check critical dimensions like the outside diameter and free length. This spring is also being stress-relieved through an in-line oven as it comes off to the CNC coiler to maximize efficiencies and reduce handling time.
