DEPARTMENT LEAD – GRINDING

SUMMARY:

This position is primarily responsible for running the grinding department safely, efficiently, and effectively by performing the following duties.

  • Operates spring end grinding machines, deburr equipment & shot peening equipment
  • Begins each day with a toolbox meeting with all members of your team in attendance.
  • Enforces safety regulations, housekeeping, and organization of department.
  • Maintain logbook and schedule team to complete Preventative Maintenance items per established PM schedule.
  • Schedule team to complete manufacturing activities by daily utilization of Work Center Dispatch report.
  • Recommend and facilitate 6S initiatives to decrease waste while optimizing productivity & safety.
  • Request’s materials, supplies, tooling, equipment parts, or repair services for department or general shop needs to achieve success while working within established budget.
  • Ensure critical KPIs are met.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and machine manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or 3-5 years related experience.

EXPERIENCED SPRING MAKERS NEEDED

Katy Spring is looking for experienced spring makers than can make a positive difference for our team.  Opportunities currently available in our Wireforming, Coiling, Secondary, Lathe & Grinding departments.

We utilize many types of spring manufacturing equipment including:

  • Torin, HTC, Itaya, Nucoil & Simco wireformers & coiling machines.
  • Bennett spring lathes.
  • Simco, SHA, Bennett & Gardner downfeed & crush style spring grinders.

Compensation:

SPRING MAKER TRAINEES

This position is primarily responsible for training in the spring-manufacturing trade.

Setting-up and operating all spring-related manufacturing equipment; coiling machines (Torin, HTC, Itaya, Nucoil & Simco), grinders (Bennett), benders, and spring lathes in accordance with Katy Spring’s safety policies and machine manufacture’s written manuals and guidelines by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • The ability to be trained quickly and understand instruction of how to set up and run spring-making equipment.
    • Ability to use measuring equipment such as calipers.
    • Ability to interpret blueprints.
    • Above average mathematical skills required.
