Garter Spring made from 302 stainless steel

[video width="720" height="1280" mp4="https://katyspring.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/IMG_4914.mp4"][/video] This is a garter spring or solid-wound spring (adjacent coils touch) made from 302 stainless steel. This particular spring is used in a mechanical seal application, which is a very common application for garter springs. Our CNC coiler is running this spring which is also being charted on an SPC chart (not shown) which Katy Spring commonly uses to establish quality controls that are easy for the operator to monitor as the part is running. SPC works well and is a great inspection method, especially for critical dimensions. Parts are checked on a regular basis and SPC charts are color-coded so that the operator who is inspecting and charting dimensions, can quickly determine by the colors, if the part dimensions are not centered within the dimension limits. If the parts are too far off-center, manufacturing will stop and adjustments will be made to center the dimensions so production can resume.
